A couple of weeks ago, Toronto startup Hurrier expanded to Montreal with the promise of quality food delivered fast. In a nutshell, the young company employs a network of "couriers" that pick up and drop off food from restaurants not typically engaged in delivery. Early participants include hits such as Burger Royal, Le Boucan, Romados, Uniburger and finally Brigade Pizzeria, subject of the current review.

Open for a little over a year amid the city-wide boom in Neapolitan pizzerias, Brigade bills itself as the only such shop with an emphasis on customization and low pricing. Start off with a base pie then choose from a host of quality toppings ranging from Quebec ricotta and Italian provolone to cremini mushrooms and marinated eggplant. Alternatively you can go for a signature pizza, salad or sandwich.
"San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, Reggiano Parmesan, basil, extra virgin olive oil". This staple pie was well-rounded having a thin crust that held its own following the trip and a mellow tomato sauce enhanced by the basil leaves.
"San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, oregano, e.v.o.o., olives, roasted creminis, sautéed baby spinach, fresh QC ricotta". You can't go wrong adding creamy ricotta to a pizza, although the olives here were too potent and overpowering in taste.
"green salad, caramelized walnuts, dried cranberries, blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette". This aptly named salad made us forget about the pizza! A medley of nutty, sweet, sharp and sour ingredients sprinkled on crunchy lettuce; superb!
"heart of romaine salad, Grana Padano, croutons, Caesar dressing". They went a little parsimonious with the cheese, not to mention the diluted dressing, rendering this otherwise crisp, fresh salad a little flat.
"brown sugar, banana chunks, topped with Nutella, sprinkled with icing sugar". A standard dessert pie found at most pizzerias. The elements were there but by the time we got to it, the crust got a tad cardboardy. Maybe order this one on-site only.

For this section, we will naturally focus on Hurrier, which promises above standard delivery times. To be precise, our order was received in 40 minutes, complete with SMS alerts at time of meal preparation, pickup and arrival (you are even informed of the courier's name); it's all very nifty.
Although we normally associate delivery with pigging out, tonight's experience was a welcome change from your run-of-the-mill thick, cheesy Quebec pizza. Brigade's combination of wood-fired pies, quality ingredients and competitive pricing makes it a solid contender in the takeout space. Add to that Hurrier's pledge of speed, and you're sure to be biting into your pizza while the dough is still hot and moist.
